I believe that my passion for health and fitness is a gift from God. My thirst for knowledge, my abilities, my constant pursuit of continuous personal growth, and my desire to help others are all born out of that passion. Using my gifts to help and inspire others to improve their quality of life is an amazing opportunity to show my gratitude for what I’ve so graciously been given. My job as a coach/trainer doesn’t start when I walk in the door each morning and end when I leave each night. It’s what I eat, sleep and breathe. It’s who I am. I strive constantly to improve and grow—not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally and intellectually—through books, seminars, workshops & certifications. I hope to inspire past, present & future clients by how I choose to live my life. I do believe that life is a series of choices—and each choice I make is either moving me closer to or further from my goals. I encourage my clients to see things that way too....READ FULL BIO

I am like many of you in two ways. One, I was once an athlete. I know this because not long ago someone said to me, “You look like you used to be an athlete.” Two, the older I get the better athlete I was.
My athletic background hints of a passion for some of the key principles of CrossFit (constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements). Indulge me in one example. Every summer, in preparation for football, I would sprint through the woods with a ball under my arm, dodging trees, downed limbs and poison ivy, in order to learn quick lateral movements. I would emerge from the woods at full speed and find my brother waiting with cardboard boxes that he would either throw at my feet or head just before tackling me. Hey, we were country boys.
I played football and baseball in high school and continued to play baseball in a small college in the middle of the cornfields of Illinois. I had some good games; I had some bad games. But I loved every minute of it.
After college I had the opportunity to coach both high school football and baseball for six years in New Hampshire. I also served as a Physical Education teacher for younger elementary aged kids for a year. Those part-time teaching/coaching opportunities coupled with my role as a youth minister working with kids of all ages for almost 15 years, helped shape my approach to health and exercise and the part they play in our lives.
I came to New Jersey in 1999 and served as the Senior Pastor at the Princeton Community Church in Pennington for six years. I will always be grateful for that group of people. Talk about a humble community. After leaving that position I was a Personal Fitness Trainer for two years. CrossFit is the first time I have ever been able to consciously marry the body/soul connection. I don’t want to get all meta-physical here but I have long said, as my body goes, so my soul goes. While alive, we simply cannot separate the two.
In Parker Palmer’s book, “Let Your Life Speak” he wrote, “Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent.”
Most of my life I have been orchestrating the next big move. But now I realize the next move has been orchestrated for me. I am humbly confident that there is a convergence of the things that I love most (teaching, athletics, encouraging) through transform CrossFit and don’t think I could be more excited about the possibilities.
By the way, as this is a bio I thought I should mention that I also enjoy walks on the beach, show tunes and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
